CONNESSIONE A SDG DELLE NAZIONI UNITE
Tangier City Port Authority Management Company started the plan for the reconversion of Tangier’s waterfront in 2011, reconnecting city, sea and port, and promoting the tourism sector. The plan affects an area of 28.5 Ha and represents a global public-private investment of about 4.5 billion dirhams. Besides private commercial projects such as hotels, congress centre, mall or cinema, it also includes a new fishing port, a new mosque and a new marina, already concluded. One of the main innovations is the cable car, connecting different areas with the city centre. The new line will connect, over a length of approximately 1800 metres, the Kasbah, the cruise and ferry terminal, the marinas and Faro Square. This green mobility solution adapts to the constraints of the site (topography, limits of the road service, etc.), and will enable a traffic of about 2 800 persons per hour. The main element is the monocable gondola with 10 to 12-seater cabins and continuous unidirectional operation. The first phase, done with the support of a private investor, should be functioning in early 2022, with two sections connecting Borj Nâam to the Ferry Station and Boat Station.
River transportation is an excellent alternative for urban and last-mile logistics. In the case of Paris there several pioneering projects to use the Seine river as logistic channel. The project Fludis proposes a system combining 38 m long electric barges as floating warehouses with electric bicycles, capable of distributing 3000 packages per day, potentially saving up to 110 tons of CO2 per year. Another case is the cable car developed by Citallios to transport 260 000 tons of dirt from a construction site in Clichy. This original system transports skips carrying 20 tons of land over 400m at 35m above ground, connecting the site with the barges. This solution will save 10 000 trucks per month and safe 35% CO2 emissions. Other solutions in Paris using barges, like Green Deliriver, use alternative fuels, like biogas, or combine different electric vehicles, such as Green Switch Meridian. These examples show the potential of rivers for sustainable mobility.

In 2016 the Civitas Portis EU project started, gathering 5 European port cities, coordinated by Antwerp, that will work as living labs to test innovative sustainable mobility solutions for urban and port generated traffic. For Antwerp, the main challenges are transforming tramlines into structural axis linking city and port areas, influencing the transport choices of citizens, reduce car dependency for commuters and improve the traffic flow around the city to enhance living quality in the urban areas.
Among the different tools there is a clear marketing strategy and new collective transport such as boats.
